Synchronization Signal Block
SSB Synchronization Signal Block
The SSB is a building block in the Cell search and initial access procedure for 5G NR networks. It consists of a group of signals and channels combined into a single block that helps UE identify, synchronize, and obtain basic system information from the gNB.
SSB is composed of the PSS, SSS, and the PBCH. SSBs are transmitted in specific time and frequency locations and are Beam Formed, enabling the UE to not only synchronize but also determine the correct beam. The periodic transmission of SSB allows UEs to detect the cell and acquire system timing information.
