Physical Random Access Channel
PRACH Physical Random Access Channel
Critical channel in NR used for initial access procedures, such as when UE wants to connect to the network or re-establish a lost connection. Enables the UE to request Uplink synchronization with the gNB.
Key aspects of 5G PRACH include:
- PRACH preambles allow the UE to announce its presence to the network.
- It uses specific time-frequency resources as configured by the gNB, and supports various formats and numerologies for different deployment scenarios (FR1, FR2, long/short preamble).
- PRACH is tightly integrated with 5G's flexible frame structure, allowing for low-latency and highly efficient access procedures.
- In 5G, PRACH is also used for other purposes, such as beam management in mmWave deployments.
